Oral Piercings
Oral piercing can cause many dental problems such as receded gums, tooth sensitivity, abscessed teeth, tooth loss and gum disease.
Most piercing studios will not warn you about the effects of oral piercing on your teeth and gums. Also, most piercing studios are not regulated or licensed. Please consider the possible problems that may occur once you get an oral piercing.
Once you are pierced, the jewelry used is what commonly causes dental problems because the jewelry can rub against your gums or teeth. You could also accidentally bite down on the jewelry possibly chipping or cracking your teeth.
In addition to oral piercing causing dental problems, oral piercing can cause health problems such as excessive bleeding, infection, endocarditis, transmission of disease or allergic reaction from the jewelry if the piercing is done incorrectly or done without the proper tools.
It is highly recommended by dentists to avoid oral piercing all together. If you already have an oral piercing, consider removing the jewelry and letting the area completely heal.
