Dental Brushing

Dental Brushing is crucial to sustaining healthy teeth and gums and helps in preventing bad breath, dental cavities, periodontal gum disease and tooth decay. 

Whether you use an electric toothbrush or a regular toothbrush, the following are a few things to keep in mind when brushing your teeth:

• It is highly recommended to use a soft bristle toothbrush because the soft bristles are less evasive on your teeth and gums, and they clean your teeth and gums more effectively
  
  
• Put a pea-sized amount of toothpaste containing fluoride onto your toothbrush before brushing.  If you have sensitive teeth, use a toothpaste that is labeled “sensitive”
  
  
• Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and gently begin brushing your gum line, the insides and outsides of all your teeth, your tongue and the roof of your mouth.  Make sure you gently brush every tooth surface in your mouth.  Use gentle circular motions and back and forth strokes to avoid toothbrush abrasion
  
  
• Replace your toothbrush every three months because with each use of your toothbrush, the bristles fray and bacteria builds up on the bristles
  
  
• Brush your teeth twice a day.  Its highly recommended to brush your teeth after breakfast and right before bed.

In addition to brushing your teeth twice a day, many dentists highly recommend flossing your teeth at least once a day, using an anti-bacterial mouth wash daily and having semi-annual dental check-ups and cleanings.
