Eliminate Bad Breath
Bad Breath Issues Solved by Dr. Dhayni Warren Michigan / Detroit Metro Dentist
Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is a foul smell that is released from your mouth when you are breathing and may or may not come from an oral source. If bad breath is left untreated there can be a significant impact on your business, personal and social life.
Bad breath is most commonly caused by bacteria found in your mouth. Anaerobic bacteria is the most common type of bacteria and requires little or no oxygen to thrive. These bacteria’s produce sulfur compounds that cause the bad breath.
These sulfur producing bacteria’s can come from:
- Alcohol, coffee or high in acid beverages
- Smoking or chewing tobacco
- Dry mouth due to stress, fasting or dieting
- Improper oral hygiene
- Certain strong foods (garlic, onions, spices, meat, fish and dairy products)
- Dental problems such as periodontal gum disease, an abscessed tooth or tooth decay
Bacteria can collect on the surface of your tongue, on your gums, below your gum line, between your teeth and other small crevices on your teeth.

To diagnose and treat bad breath, Dr. Dhayni will perform a thorough examination and talk to you about your lifestyle to establish the origin of your bad breath. If we determine that bad breath does not originate orally, we will refer you to a doctor to diagnose and treat your bad breath.
If your bad breath does not originate orally that can indicate:
- Sinus or throat infections due to illness or allergies
- Various medical conditions
In most cases, bad breath originates in the mouth. If so, we will provide you with proper oral hygiene techniques such as regular brushing, flossing, use of an anti-bacterial mouthwash and tongue cleaning. If a dental problem such as periodontal gum disease, an abscessed tooth or tooth decay exists, Dr. Dhayni will recommend dental procedures to correct the situation. We will also advise you on how certain lifestyles could resolve your bad breath problem and recommend semi-annual dental check-ups and cleanings.
Bad breath is difficult to live with and embarrassing, but it’s reversible in most cases. So please contact Warren Dentistry and soon you will have fresh breath and a healthier mouth.
