Soft Drinks or Diet Soft Drinks
Excessive drinking of soft drinks or diet soft drinks can cause many dental problems such as bad breath, dental cavities, gum disease and tooth decay. Any soft drink that contains sugar or acid is bad for your teeth.
Even if you consume soft drinks daily and properly maintain your teeth through dental brushing, dental flossing and use of an anti-bacterial mouthwash, dental problems can still occur.
Soft drinks contain tons of sugar and when you drink them, the sugar attaches itself to your teeth. Bacteria that naturally live in your mouth survive by eating the sugar they find on your teeth. As the bacteria consume the sugar, they produce acid. Over time, the acid will eat away at the enamel and dentin layer of your tooth/teeth.
Even if you drink diet soft drinks that contain no sugar, dental problems can still occur. Most diet soft drinks still contain phosphoric acid and/or citric acid. These acids will also eat away at your enamel and dentin layer of your tooth/teeth. Every time you drink a soft drink or diet soft drink, your teeth are covered in the tooth destroying acid for approximately 20-25 minutes.
To avoid the damage that soft drinks and diet soft drinks cause to your tooth/teeth, drink water or milk. That does not mean you cannot enjoy a soft drink or diet soft drink every once in a while. It is highly recommended to avoid drinking soft drinks or diet soft drinks on a daily basis.
