Dental Cavities

TeethDental cavities are small holes that form on the enamel and dentin layers of your tooth.  A dental cavity occurs when acid producing plaque forms on your teeth and destroys tooth structure.

If steps are not taken to treat a dental cavity, the cavity will grow larger.  If treatment is avoided, the inner layers of your tooth may become infected, requiring root canal therapy.  You may even lose your tooth.

To prevent dental cavities from forming on your teeth the acid producing plaque should be minimized:

  • proper oral hygiene should be maintained on a daily basis.  It is recommended that you brush your teeth twice a day, floss your teeth once a day, use an anti-bacterial mouthwash once a day and have dental checkups and exams every six months.
  • Proper nutrition should be maintained regularly.  Avoiding foods or drinks that are high in sugar content.  And when you do eat foods or drinks that are high is sugar content, eat them with a meal.
  • Avoiding smoking, drinking or smokeless tobacco
  • Use of dental fluorides or dental sealants

If you have a dental cavity or would like to see if you do have any dental cavities please contact Dr. Dhayni, DDS to schedule an appointment at (586)-558-8200 or email us at info@warrendentistry.com. Our office is located at 30205 Schoenherr Rd, Suite E, Warren, Michigan 48088.  Dr. Dhayni, of Warren Dentistry, provides general and cosmetic dental services in the Metro Detroit Michigan Area.

To determine if you have dental cavities, Dr. Dhayni will work with the dental hygienist to perform a thorough exam, which will include visual examination, use of digital dental radiography to capture x-ray images of your teeth and use of Diagnodent to detect the level of tooth decay, if present on each tooth.  You will hear us identify the location of any cavities by using letters and numbers to identify the exact location of the dental cavity or cavities.

If Dr. Dhayni finds any dental cavities, he will discuss treatment options with you.  There are several types of dental restoration treatments available.  The most common is a dental filling.  The cost of treating dental cavities depends on the type of treatment your want and what Dr. Dhayni recommends. We have various payment options and financing is available for those who qualify.

But remember that treatment is required when a dental cavity is present to prevent further damage and more extensive treatment in the future.  So call us today, 586-558-8200!
